domus

CafĂ© Domus is located on 124 owen road, a nondescript building surrounded by hardware/auto spare part garages.. you will get lost.. you’ve been warned..

If you’re traveling by public transport, take a NEL and drop at Farrer Park.

Head out via Exit D. You will see Park Royal Bldg on your far right.. as well as a taxi stand..walk 50metres straight till you reach Owen Rd.
Turn in, and you will pass by a bldg called Shahid Apartments, and also see a small road called Worchester Rd to your left..
do not be distracted..keep on walkin..and after 100metres Cafe Domus will be to your right

If you decide to reach by car/bike/taxi..take the CTE … upon reaching kampong java flyover exit at Norfolk Rd that will directly take you into Owen Rd.. cafedomus will be to your left..
if you’re travellin from the east.. exit CTE Balestier Rod and turn right into Tessensohn Rd. you will see the Owen Rd junction within half a minute..

you would be walkin in the midst of auto parts garages, workshops and the ubiquitous coffee shop..but keep on walkin till you see big unit number 124..
give a good peek inside, and you will be greeted by a bright eyed pink oriental floral wallpaper with even more ubiquitous lookin seats.. i just learned the meaning of ubiquitous so im tryin to practise is more regularly you see..

If you’re still lost.. good luck with life..

I will post photos on my blog so that you guys can recognize certain landmarks and include a map..

There’d be food and drinks.. more drinks than food actually.. and we’ll all have a good time together..

the invitation is also extended to the partners of laureen, carin, azmi.. if the rest of you suddenly decided to get attach since the last I saw of you guys.. they’re invited as well

Hope everyone can be a good sport and have some fun to the theme.. at least it’ll give you all a reason to go shoppin.. :D

Thanks and hope to see you all down ..

a better part of me..

i could have been in uni..

readin blogs about how my peers r doin well and enjoyin their time currently.. it does make me wonder.. if i did make the right choice..

maybe i'm jus tryin to find the better part of me

i hope it does exist..

before meetin azmi last wk i went to kino and bought a book

tiziano terzani's 'a fortune-teller told me'

how, as a journalist, he was warned not to travel by air in 1993..and how that changed his life since his work entails him to travel extensively..a journey of self exploration, and perhaps in realisin what life holds for him..
i'd review it asap..

lately i've been fascinated by travel, in its physical form, as well as in the journey of findin urself.. i hope not to spend my whole life findin..searchin happiness only to realise that it's just a figment of your imagination..

perhaps im here, for the lack of a better idea..

home song stories

the home song stories is a riveting tale of a Chinese lady, Rose, who was stunningly played by Joan Chen, with two kids in tow in Australia, who went to meet an Uncle Bill, after years with diferent uncles in Hong Kong.

this was one of the opening scenes, where joan chen perform's lin dai's wang bu liao.. mesmering, seductive, reminiscent of the old smoky hk jazz bars..

it was 1971..and that was the year that their lives would change forever.

what follows is a tale of family breakdown, love, lust, yet the universal theme of belonging

rose longs to be with someone who loves her above everthing else
her kids simply long for a simple family life..

and what happens if you do not achieve it?

Uncle Bill was a good man, played like a typical caucasian sinophile patheticness
why was he drawn initially, and still remain captivated by rose was not known
but that is life, where you simply could not let go the best thing that ever happened to you..

yet he, was not the best thing that ever happened to rose
and off she left, and met the handsome Joe, played by the subtly charming Qi YuWu
who i personally feel is Singapore's answer to jude Law, yet a bit more sedated.

it was far from a match made in heaven.
rose wanted stability
joe wanted the carefree life he once had
and the connection wif a younger person
and this connection he had with May, was the breaking point for rose
who accuses her very own daughter, of robbing her mum's very own happiness

this was the catalyst of rose's downward spiral
and you see, the degeneration of rose's own beauty
the cracks in her life..her heart.. and her beauty

how a once well received HK songbird.. stumbled to being a lowly dishwasher in an Australian chinese restaurant

what happened towards the end, left a huge lump on my throat
did tom try to find closure? or was he still hurt by his mother's flaws?
was he still full of hatred? did he now understand why his mother made such decisions..

perhaps what rose really wanted in life, was her children's acceptance
yes, they had a poor life, and she tried to make it work
she used what she had, her beauty, her charm, her seduction
but when a woman loses it all.. how can she hold on to the things she believed in in life?
The Home Song Stories, i'd give it a 4 out of 5
simply because the themes resonate with me
i would love to meet Tony Ayres
and ask him one question...
have you forgiven your mum?
cos i'd wanna know if im capable of doing so too..
